Strengthening our community
one family at a time

Our mission is to strengthen families through in-home and community-based parenting education and mental health treatment services designed to prevent abuse, ensure healthy physical and emotional development, increase positive fathering and mothering, build loving couples, and keep families intact to ensure everyone has a safe, stable and nurturing family.

Who we are

Healthy Families Counseling & Support addresses the social, emotional and mental health needs of children, families and individuals, focusing efforts on the prevention of child abuse, treatment of mental illness and development of family support networks for at-risk children and families, thereby ensuring the best possible outcomes. Innovative programming includes workshops for fathers and new parent couples, in-home parenting support for first-time parents, and in-office and in-home mental health therapy.

We offer low-cost mental health services, implementing a sliding scale when applicable, and no-cost parenting services

Mental health services
We offer a variety of therapy and counseling for children, families and adults, available in Clay, Platte and Ray counties. Our low-cost services include:

  • Outpatient counseling services for children, families and adults - provided at our main office and our satellite offices in Richmond, Excelsior Springs and Platte City.
  • In-home therapy services - We design every in-home program to meet specific and unique needs.
  • Targeted Case Management and Intensive Community Support- in-home mental health services for children and families.
  • School resource counseling available for the Lawson, Missouri school district.
Parenting Partnerships
We're dedicated to helping parents create meaningful and lasting bonds with their children. All programs are free and include:

  • Tender Beginnings - guides first-time parents in becoming the best parents they can be.
  • Tender Beginnings PLUS - helps new and expecting unwed parent couples learn the skills they need to create a strong family.
  • BraveHearts Program for Dads - teaches fathers the impact that strong father/child relationships have on a child's well-being and supports them in becoming a positive influence in their child's life.

Service Spotlight

RNav Picture

Tender Beginnings is a free voluntary home visitation program that gives soon-to-be and first-time parents the support and advice they need to create meaningful bonds with their child. Children must be within three months of birth. The program is for parents raising children from birth to age 5 - one of the most important developmental phases in a child's life.

Through Tender Beginnings, parents receive in-home support from trained professionals. The program teaches parents how they can best foster good health, provide early brain stimulation and improve the well-being of their child.
