Our mission is to strengthen families through in-home and community-based parenting education and mental health treatment services designed to prevent abuse, ensure healthy physical and emotional development, increase positive fathering and mothering, build loving couples, and keep families intact to ensure everyone has a safe, stable and nurturing family.
Who we are
Healthy Families Counseling & Support addresses the social, emotional and mental health needs of children, families and individuals, focusing efforts on the prevention of child abuse, treatment of mental illness and development of family support networks for at-risk children and families, thereby ensuring the best possible outcomes. Innovative programming includes workshops for fathers and new parent couples, in-home parenting support for first-time parents, and in-office and in-home mental health therapy.
We offer low-cost services, implementing a sliding scale when applicable, and in some cases, no charge.
Mental health services We offer a variety of therapy and counselingfor children, families and adults, available in Clay, Platte and Ray counties. Our low-cost services include:
Outpatient counseling services for children, families and adults - provided at our main office and our satellite offices in Richmond, Excelsior Springs and Platte City.
School resource counseling provideing a variety of different counseling services assisting students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, family or academic problems to school districts.

We're dedicated to helping parents create meaningful and lasting bonds with their children.
Tender Beginnings - guides first-time parents in becoming the best parents they can be.
Tender Beginnings PLUS - helps new and expecting unwed parent couples learn the skills they need to create a strong family.
BraveHearts Program for Dads - teaches fathers the impact that strong father/child relationships have on a child's well-being and supports them in becoming a positive influence in their child's life.
BraveHearts Training for Professionals - designed for professionals working with men who are voluntarily, or by court order, seeking a better relationship with their children.
Kiwanis Clubs and HyVee StoresTo Host Mom’s Day Baby Shower Drive— Saturday, May 8, 2010
KC Metro Kiwanis Clubs are joining with Hy-Vee stores across the area to host the 11th Annual Mom’s Day Baby Shower Drive, for agencies helping babies in need, will be held the Saturday before Mother’s Day, May 8. Kiwanians and Agency representatives will staff collection tables between 9:00 and 3:00pm, providing Needed Items lists and program information.
The Metro KC Kiwanis Council organizes the Annual Drive, recognizing the recipient Agencies' critical need for new, daily care items for babies of the families they are serving.
By shopping either the Englewood or Gladstone Hy-Vee stores on May 8 and purchasing needed items, you support Preventative Programs at Healthy Families Counseling & Support.

Service Spotlight
BraveHearts Program for Dads
...an initiative designed to provide an array of services to fathers.
Through workshops, fathers learn the important role they play in their children lives, how to be active and contribute positively to their children’s well being.
Monthly activities are planned for dads, their children and mentors along with peer support.
Fees are based on residence and/or referral status, sliding scale available to those who qualify.
Participants may also qualify for Case Management services.
BraveHearts Training for Professionals …Designed for Professionals working with Men who are voluntarily, or by court order, seeking a better relationship with their children. This practical, idyllic and relaxed training on how to engage fathers uses interactive presentations, exercises and videos.
Instruction focuses on factors affecting fatherhood such as:
· Perceptions as competent caregivers
· Beliefs about fathering
· Psychological wellness & Role stress
· Characteristics of their child
· Relationship with their child’s mother
· Network of support outside of family
· Economic and work-related status
· Social isolation
